Meets every Thursday 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM
This group helps teens learn how to manage big emotions, reduce conflict, and feel more in control of their reactions.
The adolescent DBT skills group is designed for teens between the ages of 13 and 18 who may struggle with emotional intensity, frustration tolerance, interpersonal conflict, or stress related to school, family expectations, peer relationships, or extracurricular demands. Many adolescents referred to this group are described as bright and capable, yet experience emotions that escalate quickly, interfere with learning, or lead to frequent conflict at home, school, or in social settings.
This group is particularly appropriate for adolescents who experience emotional outbursts, withdrawal, anxiety, mood swings, impulsive reactions, or difficulty recovering after stressful events. Parents, caregivers, educators, coaches, and other professionals often observe that these challenges can significantly impact academic performance, family relationships, classroom functioning, and participation in activities. The DBT skills group provides adolescents with concrete strategies to better understand their emotions, slow down reactions, and respond more effectively to challenging situations.
While parents or caregivers are often the primary decision-makers for participation, the group is also designed to feel relevant and worthwhile to teens themselves. Skills are presented in a practical, developmentally appropriate manner, with an emphasis on how DBT can help them feel more in control, improve relationships, and reduce daily stress.
Group will be held in a rotating 12 week cycle.
All DBT skills groups at ElevateMind follow a structured, skills-based 12 week curriculum that emphasizes learning, practice, and application. Participants are taught core DBT skill areas, including:
Mindfulness: Developing awareness of thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations in order to respond more intentionally rather than reacting automatically.
Distress Tolerance: Building the ability to cope with intense emotions and stressful situations without making them worse through impulsive or harmful behaviors.
Emotion Regulation: Understanding emotions, reducing vulnerability to emotional overwhelm, and increasing the ability to manage emotional intensity.
Interpersonal Effectiveness: Learning skills to communicate needs, set boundaries, and maintain relationships while also respecting oneself and others.
Skills are introduced in a clear, step-by-step manner and reinforced through discussion, examples, and between-session practice. The emphasis is on practical use rather than theory alone.
